Bring Your Own Laptop (BYOL) Program

In 2017 we began offering students in year’s 4 to 6 the opportunity to join our Bring your own Laptop (BYOL) program. This new and exciting initiative has been a huge success and we are pleased that we will be able to continue using BYOL and other computer options in future years. Towards the end of each year expression of interest forms will be sent home with students outlining the requirements and fees for the next year’s program.

In 2024 the following computer options will be available for students in year 4 to 6

Option 1 BYOL: The BYOL program incurs an annual fee. This levy covers the cost of all school supplies.

Option 2 HIRE: Students are provided with a school laptop.  This levy includes the ICT hire fee and all school supplies.

Opt-Out: Parents can choose for their student not to participate in the laptop programs however parents/caregivers will then need to supply all school supplies at their own expense and booklists can be collected from the school office.

Participate in the 2024 BYOL Program by completing  the below application.  All fees for the year are stated in this application form.

BYOL Overview

BYOL is a new pathway supporting the delivery of 21st century learning. It is a term used to describe a digital device ownership model where students or staff use their personally-owned laptop to access the department’s information and communication (ICT) network.

Access to the department’s ICT network is provided only if the laptop meets the department's security requirement which, at a minimum, requires that anti-virus software has been installed, is running and is kept updated on the device.

Students and staff are responsible for the security, integrity, insurance and maintenance of their personal laptops and their private network accounts.

We have chosen to support the implementation of a BYOL model because:

  • BYOL recognizes the demand for seamless movement between school, work, home and play

  • our BYOL program assists students to improve their learning outcomes in a contemporary educational setting

  • assisting students to become responsible digital citizens enhances the teaching learning process and achievement of student outcomes as well as the skills and experiences that will prepare them for their future studies and careers.

Laptop selection

Before acquiring a laptop to use at school the parent or caregiver and student should be aware of the school’s specification of appropriate laptop types, operating system requirements and software. These specifications relate to the suitability of the laptop to enabling class activities, meeting student needs and promoting safe and secure access to the department’s network. Refer to the Computer Handbook (PDF, 1.2MB).
